2017 is almost here, and technology keeps advancing at an incredible rate! Below, we highlight the top tech trends to keep an eye on this year and consider implementing for your business.
1) Increased Use of Mobile Devices
Mobile devices will become an even more integral part of how businesses operate. With advancing software, apps, remote desktop, and other mobile solutions, work that has typically been done on desktops or laptops can now be done on phones and tablets. This allows businesses and their employees to stay functional wherever they are.2) Increased Use of Cloud Services
Businesses have already started shifting in this direction, but the use of cloud services for email and other things like file storage will continue to grow. Email services like Microsoft Office 365 have numerous benefits. Not only does cloud email reduce the need for technology and the management of that technology, but it also allows employees to access their email from anywhere. Similarly, cloud storage services like Dropbox and OneDrive add mobility and create redundancy of important documents.3) Improved Ability to Work from Home
The first two trends lead into this one. Because employees are able to access their email, files, and have devices that can function outside of the office, more and more employees will have the ability to be just as productive at home as they would be in the office. This is great for businesses for multiple reasons. For employees that do come into the office for work, they can stay productive on days when they can't make it in, such as when a child is home sick. The other benefit is that it allows employees to work remotely the majority of the time, which can result in large savings for businesses.4) Increased Awareness of Scam Campaigns
Scammers are taking things to new levels and have been incredibly effective with new tactics. One of these tactics is collecting the email addresses of employees and spoofing employee email addresses so that they're able to send emails that appear like they're coming from coworkers and even high-level executives. An example would be a spammer sending an email from the CEO of a company to the accounting department to wire a payment to someone. Because it truly appears like this request is coming from someone of authority within the company, it's highly effective. Because of this, an increased awareness of this type of scam is critical.5) Terminal Machines & Servers
One of the biggest advantages technology will provide businesses in 2017 is the ability to implement terminal machines and servers. These machines allow businesses to invest in powerful hardware that their employees log into to access their programs. An example of how big of an impact this can have is for businesses where employees use powerful programs on a daily basis. Photoshop is a great example. Rather than having to provide computers powerful enough for each and every person who needs these programs, employees simply log in to the terminal server and have access to whatever they need. This can result in cost savings, but it also allows the company to manage just one machine instead of a different machine for each employee. As you look to reduce costs, improve processes, and become more productive in 2017, technology can play a major role.Recent News & Insights
